WORSHIP OPENING
Welcome everyone. It's time to worship God, so let's put aside planning and worrying and whatever might distract us, and spend the next few minutes focused on the Lord.
OPENING IN THE NAME OF THE TRINITY
Leader: We worship in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
Leader: "Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness."
Speak along if you are able, or the leader can read and everyone agree in your hearts: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
(brief pause)
Leader: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. In accord with his promise and by the authority he has given his church (John 20:23), I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER FOR BLESSING ON WORSHIP
Leader: "Be with us now as we gather in your name. Bless us through the hearing of your word. Give us hearts that are eager to believe what you promise and obey what you command, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen."

FIRST READING:
Matthew 5:1-10
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
HYMN
O God of love, O King of peace,
Make wars throughout the world to cease;
Our violent ways help us contain;
Refrain: Give peace, O God, Give peace again!
Remember, Lord, your works of old,
The wonders that our fathers told;
Remember not our sin's dark stain, Refrain
Whom shall we trust but you, O Lord?
Where rest but on your faithful word?
None ever called on you in vain; Refrain
Where saints and angels dwell above,
All hearts are joined in holy love;
O bind us in that heav'nly chain; Refrain

SECOND READING:
For your reference:
Matthew 5:43-44
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 7:12
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 22:37-39
37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
HYMN
1
Lord of all nations, grant me grace
To love all people, every race,
To see each mortal as I ought
My kindred whom your love has brought
2
Break down the wall that would divide
Your children, Lord, on every side.
My neighbor’s good let me pursue;
Let Christian love bind warm and true.
3
Forgive me, Lord, where I have erred
By loveless act and thoughtless word.
Make me to see the wrong I do
Will crucify my Lord anew.
4
Give me your courage, Lord, to speak
Whenever strong oppress the weak.
Should I myself as victim live,
Remembering you may I forgive
5
With your own love may I be filled
And by your Holy Spirit willed,
That all whose lives are touched by mine,
May know your healing touch divine.

PRAYER
Take a moment to ask for prayer requests.
- Remember to include prayers of thanks and prayers asking for things, both for you and for others.
- Remember to ask for spiritual blessings as well as physical blessings.
- It is fine to have a short prayer. It doesn't need to sound super-fancy or ultra spiritual, just speak to God from the heart.
- Bring these thanks and requests to God in your own way, then close
- Leader: Lord we ask you to bless the following:
- Steve Anson's recovery from a broken hip
- Transitions for the Most and O'Haver families
- Let this time of isolation be a time of spiritual growth for all of us at St. Matthew, and may we appreciate more the freedom we have to worship you together when this present crisis has passed
- Bless our land with Christian peace and love for one another.
- Say the Lord's Prayer
